the joy of teaching, the love of learning

Carlyle Kindergarten

Welcome To Carlyle Kindergarten

At Carlyle kindergarten we celebrate Napier’s history with a focus on 21st Century learning. We incorporate the ‘Virtues Project’ into our daily lives and we are dedicated to keeping up to date with current theories and practice. We have highlighted literacy as an area of interest in a recent ICT Research project. Children’s interests are our interests.

We have a lush, vibrant outdoor environment that is often admired and ever changing. Teachers and children welcome interested families. Our kindergarten becomes 'tent city' when we host an overnight sleepover for parents and children.

In 2010 three members of our staff entered the Bloke Free triathalon, the rest of the staff were our support crew.

Our Session Times Are:
Mon to Fri               8:30am to 12:45pm
Mon Tue Thu & Fri   1:30pm to 3:30pm

Our Staff To Child Ratio:
We have a ratio of 1 teacher to 10 children, with additional non teaching support as well.

Carlyle Philosophy:
The philosophy of the kindergarten is reflected in the positive social and cooperative relationships between children and adults, and learning evident in the centre’s programme.  At Carlyle Kindergarten we -
Foster friendships
Feed enthusiasm
Ignite curiosity
Connect with the community and live for learning

Our Favourite 2009 ERO Comment:
"Children develop strong friendships through positive and respectful relationships with their peers.  Some children have well developed language skills and most are confident communicators.  Teachers approach children respectfully and promote warm and caring interactions.  They work closely with children to foster curiosity through listening and careful questioning that prompts children’s thinking.

Well presented displays throughout the centre capture a wide range of children’s learning experiences and reflect the value teachers place on children’s work and creativity.  Teachers provide good support for children’s literacy learning and use information and communication technologies (ICT) in meaningful contexts in a range of curriculum areas.  Children are familiar with using digital cameras to record their work, and use the internet and other ICT as research tools to extend their learning."

Testimonial:

"Carlyle Kindergarten has provided both my daughter Olivia and my son Thomas with an amazing start to their education. From the moment you walk in the gate you feel welcome and part of the caring and nurturing atmosphere. The staff are enthusiastic, dedicated and passionate about the learning opportunities they provide and most importantly the children they teach. They are very approachable and always had time to discuss the progress of my child and any concerns I had. The programme they offer is motivating, engaging and challenging. It caters for the wide range of children that attend and is always evolving around the children's interests and inquiry. During the sessions the children are taught values which are important in preparing them for being a part of the world. These are modeled through the staff's actions and words everyday. Carlyle Kindergarten has been part of a technology contract so the staff are highly skilled in this area and the children are able to work with the most up to date technology to create movies and e books.   Olivia and Thomas have had so many opportunities which has seen them grow in confidence and the skills they needed to be ready for school. Most of all my children have loved going to Carlyle Kindergarten. Thank you for all the time and effort you have put into my children!! Leigh Golding, parent, March 2010.
