Onekawa KindergartenWelcome To Onekawa Kindergarten Onekawa Kindergarten is set in attractive, landscaped grounds on the Maadi Rd reserve and we are the proud winners of the Napier PreSchool Garden Competition 2010. The warm friendly environment for children and adults alike inspires discovery and delight. A place of learning that is relaxing and encourages children to reach their potential as competent and capable learners.

Onekawa Philosophy:
We offer a curriculum based on Te Whâriki and Habits of Mind that is inclusive, exciting, challenging and fun. As a result children’s learning will be extended and enhanced in a safe environment. Through careful planning and reviewing of our practice and program, setting specific goals for individuals and the kindergarten we ensure the implementation of this philosophy. We believe we are a part of a wider community working in partnership with families/whânau showing mutual respect, communicating with openness and honesty. Our Favourite 2009 ERO Comment: Caring interactions; 'Teachers interact with children in caring, respectful and affirming ways. They listen and respond to children’s conversations and accept their contributions. The high adult-to-child ratio provides many opportunities for children to experience extended conversations with teachers. Children interact easily with teachers and peers and approach adults confidently. Teachers model strategies to assist children to problem solve, and negotiate differences when they arise. Children demonstrate a strong sense of belonging.' Self-directed learning; 'Children lead their learning. Adults follow and support children in their chosen areas of interest. The project approach allows children to set their goals and understand what they will be learning. Children can work on their projects for an extended period of time, one to one with a teacher.
