Riversdale Kindergarten

Welcome To Riversdale Kindergarten

Riversdale Kindergarten is set in spacious park like grounds in Taradale, where children have the opportunity to explore and learn in the natural environment. Several large mature trees provide natural shade as well as the opportunity to learn about the natural rhythms of the seasons. We are proud to be an enviro-school. This allows the children to grow vegetables in our gardens, learn about waste reduction, composting and to tend for the worm farm and our pet chickens.
A playgroup operates every Wednesday morning from 9:00 – 11:00am. Children who have not yet started kindergarten can come along with their parent/caregiver and join in all the fun of our kindergarten session, at no cost. This enables children and their families to have a smooth transition into kindergarten.

Our Session Times Are:
Monday to Friday              8:30am to 12:45pm
Monday to Friday              8:30am to 2:30pm

Our Staff To Child Ratio:
We have a ratio of 1 teacher to 10 children, with additional non teaching support.

Riversdale Philosophy:
Kaitiaki o tonga a papatuanuku.
We care for the gifts of the earth and foster natural curiosity and exploration. We empower children to develop respectful relationships.

Our Favourite 2016 ERO Comment:
Children learn in an environment where they are valued and affirmed for who they are and what they bring to their learning.  A sense of belonging is promoted through strong, respectful relationships with families and whanau.  Children lead their own learning.  They engage in cooperative play for sustained periods of time.  Access to a good range of resources and activities promotes their curiosity and discovery.  There is an increased focus on integrating natural and open-ended resources.  This is supporting the development of early literacy and mathematics understanding.  Routines are responsive to children's needs and promote their independence and social skills.

Testimonial:

"My family have been involved with Riversdale Kindy since February 2013.  It's been lovely to see the growth and changes that have happened in the last few years.  With lovely caring teachers I have seen my kids develop and learn so much.  The outdoor exploring and learning opportunities along side the inside play and crafts, it truely captures all kids interests.  Fantastic community kindy, lovely families and many activities to keep my little ones happy and entertained.  I'm looking forward to see my son develop more skills over the next few years.  I highly recommend Riversdale kindy"  Parent L Somervell  April 2016

"My third child has recently started Riversdale Kindergarten, following in the footsteps of her two elder brothers.  The transition to kindy was made easy with a weekly playgroup to familarise her with the kindy environment before she started daily kindy.  The kind and welcoming teachers made sure that she felt happy to come to kindy each morning and she has quickly settled into a routine.
Riversdale Kindergarten has a very happy and fun feel, with encouraging teachers that have helped each of my children to develop immensely over their two years at kindy.  The immaculate and spacious grounds mean there is plenty of running around and I am always impressed by how the children are encouraged to be outside playing and trying new things.  The addition of the new Archgola outdoor classroom has been great for allowing these outside activities to continue rain or shine, and has made the kindergarten feel fresh, modern and spacious."  Parent A Botha May 2016
